ABC Wednesday - Z

Z is for Zebras in Tanzania but you just knew it would be didn't you?)

These 'donkeys in pyjamas' were snapped in the Tarangire National Park.
I had never realised just how brown some of them are - you always think of them as black and white.

These, also in Tarangire, were peacefully grazing among a small herd of Wildebeest (most of them had already migrated to the Masai Mara in Kenya)

These photograped in the Lake Mayanara Park were heading back to their night time resting site at sunset.

Y is for YUCCA Plant
This one in our garden has flowered for the past 3 years now and is quite stunning not only in its colours but also in its rate of growth

ABC Wednesday - X

Oh Dear I really struggled for a photo that I have taken beginning with X, but here is a brave attempt!
This is a photo taken in 2002 at a local Steam Fair. It is of course actually a photo of a steam driven organ, but included in the array of steam driven percussion instruments that accompany it is a Xylophone!

ABC Wednesday

For today's special Christmas Eve edition of ABC Wednesday and the letter W, I seem to have found rather a lot of W photos in my album
So in no particular order we have :-

W for WHITE Cat whose name is actually Ceefer ( C for Cat - get it? He also has Nelly "Furtado" and Cat "Deeley")
He is my youngest son's cat and the story behind the picture is that he was entered into the RSPCA's 2009 calendar competition and won - guess what Christmas presents YS and his girlfriend are giving?

Back to the Safari theme again with W for Wildebeest

and also W for Water Buffalo

I also have pictures from the visit Mrs DeeJay and I made to the 2007 tennis tournament with W for Wimbledon

and lastly back to nature with a relatively frequent visitor to our garden W for Woodpecker ( strictly speaking I suppose a Green Woodpecker but hey what the heck)

ABC Wednesday - U

You will no doubt have noticed my inability to get prepared for ABC Wednesday posts over the past two weeks when I left my chosen photos behind on another PC and did not have access to them when I posted
Therefore this week's letter U for me signifies UNREADY
Rather ironic really when you consider that for once I am actually very ready!

So here are the two missing photos that I planned to post under S for Shadows and T for Trabant
However this week they are posted under my UNREADY banner as

U for UMBRA
a picture of shadows cast by a collage of trash - amazing talent!

and

U for UTILITARIAN
A picture of a very enterprising initiative in Berlin where you can hire a Trabant from Trabant Safaris :-)

ABC Wednesday - S

S is for SONY CENTRE in Berlin
This is a spectacular sight at the best of times but at night it is truly awesome

S is also for SNAKE taken, yes you guessed it in Tanzania on safari :-)

Also taken there is S for Saddlebeak Stork

I am so very cross with myself as once again I have another photo that I was planning to use today and have left it on my home PC whilst I am posting this from my office PC. I will try to remember to post later

ABC Wednesday - R

R is for Rosetta Stone
I am badly prepared for this week's letter as I was going to showcase some of my own photos of the Rosetta Stone that I tool at The British Museum earlier this year, but have found that I do not have them on this PC - DOH!
So I am sorry you have to make do with these stolen from the following Wikipedia article
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_Stone

The Rosetta Stone is a 196 BC tablet of stone covered in hieroglyphics and was the key to our scientist, Thomas Young, being able to decipher hieroglyphs in 1822

Q is also for QUO (Status Quo that is) my favourite act (note not necessarily music!) but they are a fantastic stage presence

ABC Wednesday - N

N is for Ngorongoro Crater

And still the safari photos keep coming ....
This time no animals although I know they are down there somewhere!
The crater is a a natural park formed from the volcano and covers almost 8500 square kilometres. I have cheated and added an extra photo from the web to show it from the air

Belated ABC Wednesday Post - M

M is for Masai

Having missed last week's opportunity to post for the letter M, I decided that I would post late rather than miss it altogether.
I think that the posting although obviously not unique, is rather different and I wanted to share these non animal pictures from our safari trip in Tanzania.

So I give you some Masai Warriors (well tribes people anyway!)

ABC Wednesday - K

K is for Hurricane KATRINA
For a change I am posting photos that are not of my own making
So many people have commented about my safari animal photos on how lucky I have been to see them and at such close quarters.
Well, these photos of Hurricane Katrina make me so very glad that we don't get such phenomena in the UK and I don't get to be so close to them. When I saw these photos I realised that not only were folks suffering from terrible losses of life and property but must have been so very frightened also. They are so evil looking and menacing to be almost beyond belief.

ABC Wednesday - J

J is for JACKAL

Back to the safari yet again this week. Who would have thought that I would get so many letters from just one holiday
